Should I Sell My Car or Trade It In?

Looking to get rid of your old car and start getting ready to get into a new one? Well, you have a few options. You can try to sell the car yourself, or take it in to a local dealership to trade it in. Both of these options will prove effective, so this article will help you understand the pros and cons of each!

Selling your car by yourself can be very time consuming and a hassle. The only upside to this option is that you may get a little more money than trading it in, but that will cover the time and effort that you put into selling the vehicle. To do this the right way, you should create listings on Autotrader, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace and Ebay, as these are the places that most people looked for a used vehicle being sold by an owner. Creating the listings can be easy, but very time consuming. You need to be very specific with your descriptions and add an Autocheck if you want your listings to seem legitimate and make sure that you do not get into any legal issues after selling the vehicle.  Also, you will want to take A LOT of photos so that a prospective buyer has a good look at the vehicle before coming to your home to see it. This will ensure that the buyer becomes uninterested after coming to see the vehicle because they see something that was not shown in the photos. This occurrence will just be a waste of your time and effort. The only upside to personally selling your vehicle is the possibility of getting a little extra money from the sale.

If you do not want to take the time to do all of the things above, trading in is the best option. It is quick, easy and you get paid right away. Most dealerships will not turn you away if you have a vehicle that is in working condition. Also, if you pick this option, you will have to do very minimal paperwork or, in most cases, none at all! All you have to do is drive the vehicle to the dealership, have a sales representative or service technician inspect it, and then you will get an offer. It may not be as high as selling the vehicle on your own time, but it is much easier and there is no hassle involved. Also, you don’t have to worry about a buyer coming back to you and saying that the vehicle was defective and trying to get into a legal battle about it, as the dealership will take care of looking deeply into the vehicle's history and will usually have no reason to contact you about it after the transaction occurs.

Our advice is to always trade in! If you do not have experience selling cars, or other large ticket items, you do not want to take a chance on something going wrong with such a large transaction. It is much safer and quicker to bring in the vehicle to trade in and leave the same day with money in your pocket. If you are considering selling your car, bring it into Loudon Motors Ford and we will happily take it off your hands!
