Loudon Motors Ford Winter Car Hack

At Loudon Motors Ford, we are always concerned about our customers’ needs and want to make sure everyone stays safe during the upcoming winter months. There are a few helpful things you can keep in your car in case of an emergency, and most of them can be found around the house!

As a person who has a long commute to work, I always keep an emergency kit in my trunk, no matter what season it is. But, to me, it is an absolute necessity during the months when there may be snow and ice on the ground. This article contains items that I personally have in my kit, but you can construct yours according to what you think you may need!

The most important part of my kit is the travel sized first aid kit that I bought from Target. If you don’t want to waste money on buying a premade one, you can easily create your own with household items. This should include bandages, a gauze roll, a form of antiseptic (such as an alcohol wipe), and some form of OTC pain relief, like tylenol. That is an example of a smaller first aid kit, but you can add to yours according to your preferences.

Secondly, you have to stay warm! You can either buy a packaged emergency blanket, or stash one from home in the trunk. Personally, I have one folded in my trunk that I have from home. Also, you should keep at least one pack of hand and foot warmers in your emergency kit. This will ensure you do not get frostbite or hypothermia if the temperature is very low.

You should also keep a few tools with you. In my kit, I have a hammer and a flashlight. The hammer is for a more serious situation when your car may become snowed in or, in a worst-case scenario, you are stuck in your car after a crash and need to break the window. Keeping a few bottles of water and granola bars in your kit is a great idea, as well. Personally, I have a case of water and a box of protein bars in my car at all times, but a couple bottles and bars will do the trick for a simple kit.

Some may think that this is not necessary, but I like to stay cautious during the winter months, as the weather can be extremely unpredictable. This kit has helped me in the past, and I hope this article has inspired you to create your own and stay safe during the winter season!
