Loudon Motors Ford Weekly Business Highlight: ArtsinStark

This week, we are highlighting an extremely impactful business in the Minerva area, ArtsinStark. ArtsinStark is not exactly a “business”, but a non-profit organization that has been running for 48 years. Their goal is to use the arts to create smarter kids, new jobs, and healthier communities using an annual budget of only 3 million dollars. They have proven to be extremely successful, as they have hit their fundraising goal 13 years in a row, the longest streak for any united arts fund drive in the United States, from raising money during their spring Annual Arts Campaign. They can also boast an extremely low and impressive overhead that allows them to put every 91 cents from each dollar back into the programs.

ArtsinStark owns and operates the Cultural Center for the Arts and, in preparation for its 50th anniversary in 2020, they made 6 million dollars worth of improvements to the facility, and will be rebranding the neighborhood as “North Market.” The Cultural Center is home to the Canton Museum of Art, Players Guild Theatre, Canton Ballet, and Voices of Canton. They have many different programs that cover a wide range of issues. One of their impressive programs is the SmArts Program, presented by Huntington Bank, which is geared towards educating the local youth. Through this program, ArtisStank has put on 250 SmArts projects for approximately 30,000 kids in every one of the 17 public school districts in Stark County and all the Catholic Middle and Elementary Schools.

Educating the youth is only one of their many initiatives, as they strive to reinvent downtowns, promote tourism, make geniuses, and create healthier communities through the many programs found on their website here.

ArtsinStark’s goal is to better our community and they summarize their efforts in a very concise way on their website. It reads, “ArtsinStark runs one of 60 united arts fund drives in America. The $1.7 million raised through the annual arts campaign supports the area’s largest arts organizations: Canton Ballet, Canton Museum of Art, Canton Symphony, Massillon Museum, Palace Theatre, Players Guild and Voices of Canton. ArtsInStark also provides grants for smaller arts organizations, individual artists, and other nonprofits looking to use the arts to deliver innovative programs. We underwrite the SmArts Program in the schools and help downtowns across the county use live music, public art, and artist studios and galleries to revitalize. We also produce First Friday events and keep the Cultural Center for the Arts, which will be 50 years old in 2020, running.”

If you are looking for a great cause to get behind, you’ve found it! There isn’t a better way to give back than to give back to those that could like right down the street from you. This is an extremely creative and impactful non-profit and will, without a doubt, continue to thrive with the help of all of us.
